Downtown Weekend Traffic Policy Survey
Our town council is considering changes to downtown traffic patterns on weekends to revitalize the main street business district. Local merchants and residents have expressed different opinions about how to increase foot traffic while maintaining accessibility. The council wants community input before making a final decision.
Choose the option that you prefer. Why do you prefer your choice? Explain the reasons for your choice. Write about 150-200 words.
Option A: Make the main street pedestrian-only on weekends with no vehicle access.
Option B: Keep full car access to main street but add more parking and traffic management.
Dear Town Council Members,
Thank you for inviting community input on weekend traffic patterns to revitalise our main street business district. I strongly support Option A: making Main Street pedestrian-only on weekends.
This approach will significantly reduce congestion in the market area. When a similar policy was implemented in downtown Toronto, it provided great relief to both shoppers and business owners. Footfall increased considerably because people could walk, browse, and linger comfortably without worrying about traffic.
Furthermore, a car-free zone addresses a genuine safety need. It will minimise accidents involving pedestrians crossing the road and create a quieter, more pleasant environment free from honking and long queues of cars. This will not only benefit residents but also make our commercial district far more attractive to tourists and families.
For these reasons, I believe a pedestrian-only weekend will boost both safety and business.
I would be happy to volunteer my time to help implement this initiative.
Best regards,
Rahul Singh
