Do you know the most difficult module in the IELTS test?
These days, a lot of students fail the reading test of the IELTS exam, and one of the most prominent reasons for this is time management. The questions in the IELTS academic reading are tricky and require rigorous practice before you sit for the real test.
The second obvious reason is certain difficult question types like true and false in the third comprehension. Then, match the heading with the paragraphs and the MCQs. On the contrary, the easiest ones are the FIB (one word or no more than three words), and you might anticipate 4-10 questions out of 40 that you have on the question paper.
Effective Strategies to Ace the IELTS Reading
1. Learn time management.
In the first few days, your focus should be on getting the correct answers to the questions in the reading module. When you see that you are getting answers right with a few days of practice. Then, start mastering time management skills. Put a stopwatch or a timer and start monitoring the time. Make sure that you finish the test in just one hour.
2. Ensure you get maximum answers correct for the FIB, as these are scoring and can help you pass the test.
3. Solve passage one in just 14-16 minutes. Utilise this time in the last passage, as it is tricky and consumes extra time.
4. If you feel you cannot get the answer to a question easily, leave it and move to another question to save time. Attempt this one at last.
5. Be careful about the “s,” which is singular and plural. Copy the word from the passage as it is. If you copy without an “s,” your answer will be wrong.
6. Write all the answers in BLOCK LETTERS on the answer sheet to avoid confusion at an examiner’s end.
7. Practice daily and improve your scanning and skimming speed.
