Band Booster for aspirants who struggle to get a high score on the IELTS test
These strategies will help you boost your scores drastically from a band 6 to 7.5
1. In the introduction or when you give a brief about yourself, do not start all your sentences with “I.”. For instance, I am Rahul Singh, I live in Delhi, and I love sports.
2. Always be factual while answering the questions of an examiner. When they say talk about an interesting visit you made in the past with a friend. Be more realistic while answering, like giving them an exact date like the 25th of December 2023. Include the name of your friend, like Sahil. This will make the content more logical and realistic from an interviewer’s perspective. This type of response will elevate the scores.
3. Answer every question in 3-4 lines except the cue card, which will be an elaborated response. Answering to the point will save time as they have to interview a lot of candidates. Being precise will help in increasing your scores in task response.
4. This tip is for cue card preparation; I have seen candidates making this mistake multiple times. When they are asked to prepare a cue card, the information that is given to an examiner should be logically organized in the sequence in which questions are given. This will improve your scores in Coherence.
· Describe a song that has special meaning for you
· You should say:
· What this song is about?
· When and where did you first hear this song?
· How often do you listen to this song?
· And explain why it has a special meaning for you.
5. While preparing the cue card, write only a 2-3-word response on a notepad that is given to you. Writing too much will waste your time, and you will have to look at the notes again and again while speaking. This can hamper your fluency and flow of speaking.
6. Avoid using contractions like don’t, shouldn’t, and wouldn’t. The IELTS test is a formal examination, especially the academic one. Refrain from using informal phrases and such short forms.
7. Try to keep your grammatical errors to a minimum as possible.
8. Try to speak as naturally as possible with no or minimal fillers in English like hmmm, uh, ah, and so on.
9. Use a variety of sentence framing, like simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex.
10. Do not use fascinating or a high-lexical resource unless you know how to place it correctly. Otherwise, you will end up losing marks.
11. Speak slowly at a slow pace. Do not be too fast or too slow.
